How To Select A Home Computer

Computers are very versatile. They can do many things such as teaching, playing games, or helping with a business, so choosing a computer is not an easy, simple job. But if you follow these steps, you will find it easier.

First, decide on the main reasons that you want a computer. Is this computer very useful for you? Is the most important reason to play games or to help with your business or to help with your school work?

Second, look carefully at the programs the computer can use. Some people also write their own programs. If you want to write your own, it is important to look at the computer language. Is it easy to learn?

Third, decide the smallest, or the least needs you have for your computer. What are the characteristics you would like to have? For example, do you want a typewrite keyboard? Is a colour display important to you? Your use of the computer will help you decide which characteristics are necessary, which are nice, and which are unnecessary.

Fourth ,when you have limited your choices to a few computers, look at the secondary uses and programs. For example,if your main reason for buying a home computer is to play games, you may take Computer A instead of Computer B because Computer A also can be used as word processor.

Fifth, think of the price. There are prices to think about. The first price is the price you must pay to take the computer home. The second is the price of additional programs and possible additions that you might want to buy at a later date.

Be sure to try out the computer before you buy it. Sales people at computer shops are happy to help you choose the computer that will best fit your needs and cost you least.

An employer has several choices he can consider when he wants to hire a new employee. First,he may look within his own company. But if none of the present employees are suitable for the posi- tion,he will have to look outside the company. If his company has a personnel office, he can ask them to help find qualified applicants.

There are other valuable sources the employer can use, such as employment agencies, profes- sional societies and so on. He can also advertise in the newspapers and magazines and ask prospec- tive candidates to send in resumes.

The employer has two kinds of qualifications to consider when he wants to choose from among applicants. He must consider both professional qualifications and personal characteristics. Can animals be made to work for us? Some scientists think that one day animals may be trained to do a number of simple jobs that are now done by human beings.

They point out that at a circus, for example, we may see elephants, monkeys, dogs and other animals doing quite skillful things. Perhaps you have seen them on the television or in a film. If you watch closely, you may notice that the trainer always gives the animal a piece of candy or a piece of fruit as a reward. The scientists say that many different animals may be trained to do a number of simple jobs if they know they will get a reward for doing them.

Of course, as we know, dogs can be used to guard a house, and soldiers in both old and modern times have used geese to give warning by making a lot of noise when a stranger or an enemy comes near. But it may be possible to train animals to work in factories. In Russia, for example, pigeons which are birds with good eyesight, are being used to watch out for faults in small steel balls that are being made in one factory. When the pigeon sees a ball which looks different from others, it touches a steel plate with its beak. This turns on a light to warn people in the factory. At the same time a few seeds are given as a reward. It takes three to five weeks to train a pigeon to do this and one pigeon can inspect 3,000 to 4,000 balls an hour.
